There is work to be done..

So last week I signed up for a half marathon, that isn’t until October, I figured I have a ton of time to get myself up to snuff. Now, I know I hadn’t been working out or running in a while , but OMG, all I have to say is thank goodness for the 20 weeks until the big day!  Now that I have almost 20 weeks to get myself in shape I decided yesterday, since it was a beautiful day, I would get started.

My husband and I started on a walk, when my 12 year old son asked to come, I said sure,
So off all three of us go. My son quickly got bored because we weren’t walking fast enough, I was quick to say “let’s jog to the corner and then back to dad” so we did.
We did this our whole walk, a total of 2 ½ miles.  Feeling so good with the interval training of a run walk theory I decided to stop and do push ups, my son did too except he did more push ups than me. Show off!

I thought I was doing pretty well considering I haven’t been doing much in the way of exercising, that is of course, until I woke up sore the next morning. That’s when it hit me,
I have a lot of work to do so I better get my butt in gear for this ½ marathon, 20 weeks will literally fly by!

Let's get moving!!!!

Finding Your Passion...

I am in the middle of alot of things right now, I'm working full time, running a household, I'm in school part time and I'm running a business part time. Every so often I do a mental check to see if I'm where I want to be and if I'm really doing what I want to do. Well, in the middle of this thought I realized, I'm not sure if I'm doing what I want to do, you see, I started a business with my husband and I didn't really want to be involved, well, with much thought I said OK because I new he really wanted to start it. Move ahead now 1 1/2 years, he is now pulled back from the business and I'm left to run it.  I didnt' really want to do it in the first place, so now what..  I have thought about continuing to pursue the business, there are aspects that I like about it, but is it my passion? I have come to realize that I'm not pursing my passion. So what is my passion, well, for one I started to write this blog, I want to be involved with women and finding their passion and their voice, I want to become a personal trainer to name just a few.  If you're like me and in search of your passion or you've found it,

Here is an excerpt from an article I read by Ann Daly called "Reinvent your Life-How to take a Do Over!" ( You can read the Ann Daly's  post, click here, http://bit.ly/eI4EMV)

"Whatever is prompting your Do-Over!, make sure to give it the preparation it requires. When I coach women in the midst of a transition, I see four common pitfalls. Don’t let these mistakes derail your reinvention:"
  1. Poor Planning: You can't wing a Do-Over! Big or small, it needs to be thought through ahead of time with at least the same consideration as you plan a meal. Not only do you need to consider the step-by-step pragmatics of change, but you also need to consider how you will handle the push-back you may get from your family, friends, or co-workers.
  2. Going Solo: Speaking of push-back, you’ll need to assemble your dream team. It takes a village to send a child off into life, and it takes another village to reinvent an adult life. So surround yourself with positive people who understand your dream and will help make it a reality. Some team members will keep you emotionally energized along the way, and others will step in at crucial moments to offer you guidance and advice.
  3. Confused Purpose: Wouldn't it be lovely if each one of us had a big idea for changing the world and started our own nonprofit to implement it? But the reality is, not everyone has to change the whole world. Purpose isn't just about doing something. It's also about being something. As Victor Frankl said, "We can endow our lives with meaning by embracing our circumstances with dignity." Meaning isn't something we find; it's something we make. Or, if you prefer Joseph Campbell's way of looking at life, it's simply about feeling alive. So don't insist on finding a grand purpose that isn't yours just because you think you "should." Make it authentic.
  4. Insufficient Passion: Similarly, you've got to find what's really yours to love, even if the rest of the world doesn't value it. No one gave a hoot about French cooking in America before Julia Child decided to share her passion for it. A Do-Over! challenges us to the core, so you’ll need to possess an excess of passion to get through those inevitable rough patches.

Thought for the day..

Until reading the Secret and listening to "The strangest secret" by Napoleon Hill, I had no idea that I am where I am today because of my thoughts! In fact I never really thought about it before. I did wonder why, at times, how on earth did I get in this situation. Then it hit me, it's because of my thoughts.. this quote by Norman Vincent Peale, says it all. "

There is a basic law that like attracts like. Negative thinking definitely attracts negative results. Conversely, if a person habitually thinks optimistically and hopefully, his positive thinking sets in motion creative forces -- and success instead of eluding him flows toward him.

Remember to wear Sunscreen!!!

Yesterday was a great day, 60 and sunny! Was outside the whole day doing yard work and soaking up a ton of vittamin D, which I'm totally lacking after this winter. I always forget while I'm siitting there to put sunscreen on, I can't possibly get that much sun, it's not that strong yet. BIG mistake, I got my first sunburn of the season. I'm usually soooo careful about this and always ,always have at least 15 spf on. I hate the red tomato look on my face today. I of all people should know how important it is to wear sunscreen. I had a melanoma 15 years ago and since then realized how dangerous it is NOT to wear sunscreen. If you are out in the sun, here are few tips..

Put on sunscreen everyday, even  if its not sunny out. 15 spf
Get check ups regularly from your dermatologist
Do your own body checks for unusal looking moles
Stay out of Tanning salons

Thought for the day...

No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.
Eleanor Roosevelt

I have to say this has been one of the best quotes that I have read.. This has gotten me through some of my hardest times at work and in day to day dealings with people. Let's just say this, I work with all women and they can be tough. The day I read this was the day I felt a shift in how I was going to let other people affect me. I had a converstation with my husband a while back and he was telling me about his boss and how tough dealing with her can be and how she spoke to him, I told him exactly what the quote said. He has since told me that those 11 words were a life saver. Thank you Elanor Roosevelt! I reflect often on these words.
